When I was about 8 years old I woke up one weekday morning and was mysteriously informed that I wasn't going to school that day..”hmmm.. Interesting?”..
All my mum would say is “that there are some things more important than school” as she drove us into the city..she took me to the gallery where a pop art exhibition was on. I saw works by Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollack and Roy Lichtenstein.. all of which I still love to this day.
I realised the world was bigger and brighter than the little housing commission area I called home..
So here I am so many years later, standing at my easel with a Warholesque colour palette, about to throw paint Pollack styles.
It occurs to me today that the role of a parent is not to create mini versions of themselves but it is to inspire their children to be exactly who they were born to be.
It really was more important than school x
